Brickwork above windows, doors and openings should be supported by arch bars or steel lintels. Over time these may need to be replaced due to deterioration and rust.
It is important to replace arch bars and lintels early to protect your property against further damage to the surrounding area. Tell-tale signs that your steel lintels may need replacing are small cracks appearing from the corners of the window or the opening, signs of rust, flaking metal and or paint. Once a lintel has started to rust it is almost impossible to treat the steel whilst it is in place. The only way to rectify the problem of deteriorating lintels is by replacement. If left unattended this may result in structural instability.
We recommend replacing affected lintels with a hot-dipped galvanized steel lintel and in certain locations an additional Duplex epoxy coating may be required.
